Attempting Organization

I mentioned in my last post that I was trying to avoid buying new thread because of the pile I already have. Here’s the proof and how I have tried to organize it (slightly).

I have a fun, vintage lunchbox and at one point I just started putting skeins of thread in it with no thought. You can see in the above image some colors are marked with tape; I only started doing that this year. For the most part, I have opened skeins with no idea what color they are.

There was a lot unknown and a lot of knotted thread. I found this bobbin winder set on Amazon and went for it. I did end up throwing out some out when there was so little left or it was knotted beyond repair, but I spent an evening winding up the rest.

If I had the label, I wound that in; if I knew the number, I’d write it on a piece of tape. A few are unknown still, but sometimes you don’t need a specific color, you just know you like what you see (hopefully you just don’t need any more of that one).

I know there is more organization I can do, but this is already a very helpful step that cost me $10 and has since saved me a lot of stress. Down the line, I may look at more storage containers, but it’s not a high priority right now.
