Quick Craft: Photo Holder
You ever see something in a store or online and think, “I could make that.” This quick craft was inspired by a post a friend of my sent me on Instagram.
I always have a ton of fabric and embroidery floss so this was a great way to put some of it to use.
A few years ago, my group of friends was obsessed with those instant cameras, so I at least a hundred photos with no unique way to display them. The idea is to simply make a photo holder for some of those images.
I tested it out with a fabric I wasn’t as excited by (it’s cute but pale).
On the back side of the fabric, I traced the corners of the photo and then sewed the small triangles.
In case it isn’t clear, I sewed parallel along the hypotenuse, from side A to side B, leaving side C open to hold the picture.
This ring is a tight squeeze but with the squares of fabric I had purchased (last year), it was the only size that would fit. I just tucked the corners of the photo into the corners and we’re done.
This was a quick and easy project and I might be giving a few of these away as part of birthday gifts later this year. I have four rings this size so I might hold off my own interior decor and use those to give away.
I think the great thing about this idea is that it really can accommodate any photo size. I have a larger piece of fabric and bigger rings, so I could use a bigger photo or just add more flourishes around a small photo.
And it’s not permanent - you can swap out the photo (if you’re using something that’s a standard size) at any point.
Project Notes
Cost per ring is likely under $4, the main cost being the hoop itself. The floss and fabric came in packs and were minimal, individually.
Difficulty level: 1/5 - as long as you can thread a needle
Time commitment: 20min (or more if you want more flourishes)
